Effervescent is a Baltimore based dance organization that explores and promotes the power of movement. For Effervescent, dance is a physical practice in connection to a groove. Founded 2008 (Best of Baltimore 2010 & 2011 by Baltimore CityPaper) Effervescent performs improvisation and choreography with an array of local musicians, adapting to venues, schedules, and thematic contexts. Effervescent performances work outside of conventional performer-audience divide, relishing satire, and playing with the relationship between music and movement. Presenting dance is a means towards encouraging others' desire to dance. In our donation-based weekly Effervescent Open Class there are no mirrors and no memorizing. Class is influenced by Gaga, the movement language of Ohad Naharin as well as sympathetic methods practiced by out members.

Effervescent Collective started in 2008 as a group of students at Goucher College committed to working on my choreographic projects outside of the dance department. In the past few years, Effervescent Collective developed into more than just a collaborative, socially aware, dance company.

We have moved beyond presenting my own choreography and started to provide the resources and training for other emerging dancers looking to make work collaboratively. We are building our research capacities, in the hopes to foster more accessible and intelligent dialogue about movement on stage, on screen, and on the sidewalk.

We cannot continue to grow without outside financial help. Your support means the world to us. We need your help to continue to ride the momentum we have generated.

We also appreciate the skills you can teach us and the helping hand you can lend. If you have experience in arts administration, arts law, non-profit development, technical production or are generally interested in our work, be a volunteer! Need college credit? We love interns! We've had four of 'em!

The concept of “collective effervescence” emerges from the rare occasions when a community generates sacred, high energy physical movement and shared ideas.  We are happy that you are a part of this community with us and truly appreciate your support.

Help us keep moving!
