Break Down at the Wind Up
19 July 2010
In the whirlwind spirit of Artscape, break-dance took over the Windup Space on Saturday night. Approaching the ten-foot wide break circle was like steping into a dance vortex. About 20 people shared the spotlight and got down to DJ Culture, Uncle Jesse (Crossfader Bacon, Tharsis), and Ronnie Darko (Spankrock, Fully Fitted)—electronic dance music.
There was krumping, shuffling, c-walking, head stands, and backflips. It was a playful playground; all those that were bold enough to take on the spotlight were cheered on. If you have moves, the WindUp Space was the place to show 'em. And if you're not quite brave enough to step out alone, being part of the energetic crowd was deinitely worthwhile.
