Transform a Rec Center

8 December 2011

Batlimore Brew's great article about transitioning Rec Centers.

[Disclaimer! I have some pretty outrageous schemes. I can barely manage Effervescent's fiscal sponsorship taxes; I'm certainly in need of a much more experienced team to pull off some larger goals...]

Given the recent decision to privatize many of Baltimore's Rec Centers, that are unsustainably dysfunctional currently, I would love to be able to bid bigtime on a rec center in Greenmount, Sandtown, or Res Hill. To build, with help, a dance hive.

A subsidized dance studio space to support emerging movement artist's creation and performance of new work. Reminiscent of our old home Lumberhaus. But borrowing some from this model. And toss in some of this model.

Particularly useful in Baltimore where consistent professional dance training in lacking, and potential teachers of stage and vernacular/social dances don't have easily accessable and affordable studio/classroom space.

And in partnership/support of pre-existing community centers that teach movement arts!!!

A home for movement based classes that teach nutrition, family communication skills, and conflict resolution.
